Details Description
At the 2018 China International Industry Fair held in Shanghai, ABB launched the IRB 1100 robot This is ABB's most compact and lightweight robot to date and part of its expanding small parts assembly solutions. IRB 1100 is designed to address the unique challenges in the semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and electronics manufacturing sectors, meeting their needs for high-speed, high-efficiency, and high-quality handling of small and fragile parts.

– 35% shorter cycle time for higher production efficiency
– Leading repeatability for high-quality manufacturing
– 10% smaller footprint and over 20% lighter weight for flexible installation

The IRB 1100 can reduce cycle times by 35%, increasing production efficiency, and features leading repeatability. Equipped with ABB's newly launched OmniCore™ controller, it offers advanced motion control capabilities and is ideal for fast assembly, pick-and-place, and material handling.

Flexibility is another important consideration in small parts assembly, as manufacturers increasingly need to handle small batches, a wide variety of products, and ever-shorter product lifecycles. Compared to previous generations of robots, the IRB 1100 has a 10% smaller footprint and is 20% lighter, with a slimmer body that can be flexibly deployed in confined spaces and existing automated production lines. In addition to improving the flexibility of production space layout, the IRB 1100 can also achieve more flexible heavy-duty operations through complex tools or end effectors.
ABB's global president of robotics business unit, Sami Atiya, said: “Today, manufacturers need to exploit any opportunity to create value from their automation systems, and even from their factory space. The IRB 1100 supports this and creates opportunities to improve the efficiency of every inch of space in the production process. It is ABB's most compact and lightweight robot to date and an important part of our small parts assembly solutions.”

The IRB 1100 is one of ABB's first robots developed based on a new flexible design concept. This design concept will help develop robots with more diverse sizes and versions, which will in turn become part of customized solutions. The IRB 1100 will be certified for cleanroom applications in the future and will be available in two models: one with a payload of 4 kg and a reach of 475 mm; the other with a payload of 4 kg and a reach of 580 mm.
